Owner's Bio

Shemika Copeland, owner and executive director of formally known as Copeland’s Child Care has been in the childcare field for over 20 years. In high school, on summer break and after school is where I found my love for kids working for home daycares in the area. As soon as I graduated high school, I took a class through DHS to open my own. I wasn’t quite ready for the expenses in owning my own business. So I went a different route, real estate. After the market crashed in 2008 I decided to buy a small home to do what I love. Opening as a small, home-based learning facility for children licensed by DHS to serve parents that needed assistance with paying childcare along with parents paying with cash. Within 12 months of operating, enrollment reached capacity with a waiting list. To meet the need demonstrated for more high quality childcare, I went to college at night to expand from a home based program to a group home operation. This expansion increased its capacity one hundred percent, to a program licensed to serve more children, with offerings that include: Before and After child care and second-shift services. In response to the demand for high quality child care, evident by a long term wait-list, motivated me to expand once more to allow more parents access to high quality childcare. The current location does not offer opportunity for expansion therefore a larger site located at Sequoia Dr. is our new home!

Mission

To provide safe, affordable, high quality child care for children ages six weeks to twelve years, in an environment where diversity is celebrated, parental engagement is encouraged, and children are stimulated to develop at their individual pace towards school- readiness and life skills.

Vision

Working together toward a common goal is something we practice everyday at Little sprouts Preschool. We foster meaningful relationships with families, school staff and the community to help optimize each child’s learning and growth

Philosophy

Each child should be giving enough individual attention to help them feel comfortable with their child care provider. Children should be exposed to a group environment where he can interact with other children and learn the very necessary social skills that she will need as they progress into the elementary environment. We seek to stimulate the child’s curiosity, and encourage well-rounded growth for all children based on their individual levels of development. We strive to prepare children to look forward to “BIG KID School.”
